MLB Hall of Fame lefty pitcher who was a 17-time All-Star and the 1957 Cy Young Award winner. He spent most of his career with the Boston and Milwaukee Braves and helped lead the franchise to a World Series Championship in 1957.

Before Fame

He began his MLB career with the Boston Braves in 1942, then served in the US Army before returning to the Braves in 1946.

Trivia

His teammate Johnny Sain was another dominating pitcher, and a poem was written about them: 'Spahn and Sain and Pray for Rain.'

Family Life

Was married to Lorene Southard from 1946 to her death in 1978.
