Russian sprinter and hurdler who won gold medals in the 400 meter hurdles and 4x400 meter relay events at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics. She set a world record in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 52.34 seconds.
She was born in Krasnoyarsk and first found international success at the World Indoor Championships in 2001.
She missed both the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2009 World Championships due to a case of sinusitis.
She married sprinter Yevgeniy Pechonkin.
She and Christine Ohuruogu are both World Indoor Champions in the women's 4×400 meter relay.
