Annual award presented to the soccer player who has played the best over the previous year. The award initially was for only players who are European, but it has since expanded to include all players who have competed at any European club. In 2007, the award changed to include all soccer players globally.
Trivia
As of 2025, the record holder for Ballon d'Ors was 8 by Lionel Messi. The prestigious France Football magazine is the presenter of the award.
