The story of Jane Marks and her three daughters' battles with their insecurities. Jane wants to look younger, Michelle comes to grips with her failing art career and struggles with infidelity, while Anne tries to find herself as a young African-American girl being raised by a white family.

The film debuted at the Telluride Film Festival in 2001. It was also shown at the Los Angeles Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Festival. Emily Mortimer took home an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in the film.
