Colombian politician and part of the strongly political Char family who's been elected Mayor of Barranquilla twice. He first served in the office from 2008-2011 for the Cambio Radical (Radical Change) party and then he was reelected in 2015.
He studied Civil Engineering at the Universidad del Norte (Northern University, Uninorte), and he completed postgraduate degrees at Universidad de los Andes and the Georgia Institute of Technology in the U.S.
His first Mayoral win was by the biggest margin of votes in the Mayoral election history of Barranquilla, according to Gallup.
He's of Arab-Colombian descent and his father, Fuad Char Abdala, was a former Senator of Colombia and former Minister of Economic Development, as well as Ambassador of Colombia to Portugal. He married Katia Nule Marino in 1999 and they've had a son named Alejandro Char Nule and a daughter named Mariana Char Nule.
Jose Daccarett's wife Laura Char Carson is related to the Char family.
