Known best as a Washington, D.C.-based correspondent for the Edinburgh newspaper The Scotsman, this popular journalist also contributed libertarian political commentary to articles in such publications as The Los Angeles Times, The New Republic, and The Irish Independent.
During his time at Trinity College, Dublin, he edited his school's newspaper, the T.C.D. Miscellany, and was also an active member of the debate team.
He was a finalist for the 2012 Orwell Prize for political journalism.
He grew up in Perthshire, Scotland, where he attended a boarding school known as Glenalmond College.
He and Scottish comedienne and writer Janey Godley both made frequent contributions to The Scotsman.
