Twentieth-century poet whose works include The Untrammelled and The Difficult Island. She also worked as a journalist for The Daily Mirror.
She was born in New Zealand and moved at the age of eighteen to Australia, where she quickly won a journalistic award for her work with Smith's Weekly.
She was awarded the Kenneth Slessor Prize for Poetry in 1992. For her journalistic work, she won the prestigious Walkley Award.
She married rugby player Ted Greatorex in 1935. The couple had no children.
She was the 1995 recipient of the Patrick White Award in poetry.
