Businessman who founded the employee-owned supermarket chain Publix Super Markets, Inc. in 1930. In 2011, he was inducted into the Junior Achievement U.S. Business Hall of Fame.
He attended Georgia Tech and became the manager of a Piggly Wiggly supermarket after just eight works of working there.
His company, Publix Super Markets, Inc., was named as one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For by Fortune magazine in 2011.
He married and had seven children with nurse Anne MacGregor, to whom he was married from 1947 to 1974.
He and Hendrik Meijer are both entrepreneurs who founded major supermarket chains.
