Hailing from Little Rock Arkansas, he was friends with Jason White before joining Green Day. He was previously a member of Ashtray Babyhead and Magic Cropdusters.

Outside touring with Green Day, he has also hosted the Idiot Nation series The Jeff Matika Show.

He is father to three children: two boys and one girl and has occasionally posted photos of them on his Instagram account.
