Known as the first team owner in stock car racing, he owned Red Byron's car that won the 1949 NASCAR championship.
He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.
In 2002, he was inducted into the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame.
His parents were Alfred and Leila Parks, and he was the oldest of 16 children.
