Influential painter who belonged to a group of Croatian modernist artists known as the Munich Four. He was known for his oils and watercolors of landscapes, shepherds, and peasants in the village of BlaÅ¾uj near Sarajevo.
He studied at the Academy of Arts in Munich and later taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb.
He painted a series of images of wounded soldiers from World War I during his time as a war artist on the Salonika Front.
He was born in the Croatian city of Slavonski Brod.
His art was influenced by the work of French painter Edouard Manet.
