Before Fame

She became interested in journalism at age 13 when her teacher helped submit her to a competition run by Channel One. She won an internship as a student anchor and reported in Los Angeles for two weeks. She graduated in 2005 from the College of William & Mary with a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and a minor in Chemistry. She graduated from Syracuse University in 2006 with a Masters in broadcast journalism.

She worked in New York City as a reporter and fill-in anchor where she covered major stories such as the Boston Marathon bombings, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, and Hurricane Sandy. She also covered the 2016 and 2020 Presidential Elections, the funeral of First Lady Barbara Bush and the congressional baseball shooting. In 2020 she wrote her memoir, Other. 

Family Life

She was two when her family immigrated to the United States. She met her husband, Travis Luther Lowe, in college where they co-hosted a weekly campus television show. They married in March of 2018. They have children named Frankie Mei and Jack Li.

She has traveled with President Trump on Air Force One multiple times and covered the story of his and Vladimir Putin's historic summit in Helsinki.
