Musical family film in which a canine named Charlie sneaks back to earth from heaven after being murdered by his former friend. Charlie teams up with an orphan girl who can speak to animals who teaches lessons of kindness, friendship and love.

The movie was produced and directed by Don Bluth. It is an Irish, British and American venture that competed directly with Disney's The Little Mermaid during its theatrical release. It spawned a sequel, All Dogs Go to Heaven 2, a television series, All Dogs Go to Heaven: The Series, a Christmas TV special, An All Dogs Christmas Carol.
