Before Fame

She graduated from The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. She also graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York. She became famous for using her own sexual assault as inspiration for her first novel.

Trivia

In a 2016 essay written for Lena Dunham's newsletter, she revealed she once got drunk at a party when she was 15 years old and woke to being assaulted by multiple people.  The television rights for her second novel were bought by producer Bruna Papandrea, who created the series Big Little Lies.

In 2013, she married Greg Cortese. They adopted a bulldog named Beatrice.
