Before fame
She developed an early interest in acting and performing while growing up. She began her professional acting career in the early 2000s. Her first major film appearance came in 2001 when she played the role of Chiara in the Italian comedy The Prince and the Pirate. She appeared in the TV movie Maria in 2003. She continued building momentum with roles in The Fugitive in 2003 and the internationally recognized anthology film Eros in 2004. She gained significant attention for portraying opera legend Maria Callas in Callas e Onassis in 2005 which then led her to gaining more work in films. She experienced a second major career peak with Paolo Sorrentino's film The Hand of God in 2021.

She married Italian actor Luca Zingaretti in 2012 after they met while working together on the television project Cefalonia. They have two daughters together.
