Remembered best as the "Stranger on the Highway" in the Western movie Easy Rider, this American screen actor played one of his few starring roles in the 1969 film Night of the Serpent.
After studying at the University of Georgia and subsequently attending law school at Mercer University, he was cast in the 1967 film Hurry Sundown.
He guest starred on television series such as The Rockford Files, L.A. Law, and Bonanza.
He grew up in Macon, Georgia, as the son of Dorothy Doolittle and Milton Askew. He later settled in Portland, Oregon.
He appeared on screen with John Wayne in the 1968 movie The Green Berets.
