Before Fame

Family Life
He was born Christopher Gholson in Memphis, Tennessee to an opera singing mother and a music professor father. His father, G. James Gholson, was also a critically acclaimed clarinetist and the first African-American man to hold the 1st chair position in the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.
