Before fame
He was exposed to music and street culture at a young age. He was active in the early hip-hop movement from the late 1970s through the early 1980s performing under the name Sweety G. He began his formal artist-management career in the late 1980s including work with LL Cool J. He expanded into sports and entertainment representation in the 1990s advising athletes, entertainers, and executives through Glenn Toby Enterprises. He founded The Book Bank Foundation in 1997. He co-founded The Entertainment Alliance in 2023.
Trivia
He received the National Urban League Leadership Achievement Award in 2006 for his work in business and community leadership. He delivered a TEDx talk in 2025. He is the author of the novel The Asian Power League which was released in 2020 and contributed to the book Souls of My Brothers in 2003. He worked with foundational hip-hop figures such as Doug E. Fresh, Biz Markie, Kool Moe Dee, Kurtis Blow, and Grandmaster Flash during the genre's formative era.
