A partially recognized state in Southeast Europe. It lies at the centre of the Balkans.It is not a United Nations member state because two of its permanent members, China and Russia, declared the independence of this region illegal. The International Court of Justice ruled that Kosovo is a sovereign nation in 2010.
Trivia
The Ottoman Empire ruled Kosovo from the mid-15th century to the early 20th century. The majority of Kosovo's population is Muslim. In the 1990s, Albanians opposed both Serbs and the government of Yugoslavia in Kosovo.
