An island country in South Asia, southwest of the Bay of Bengal. It was formerly known as Ceylon. A 26-year civil war began in 1983 and ended in 2009, when the Sri Lanka Armed Forces defeated the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
Trivia
It is a leading tea producer and exporter. People of the island nation shake their head from side to side to agree. Cricket is the most popular sport in the country but volleyball was made the national sport.
